Courses & Resources
Courses, Training, Courses, More Training...
As English teachers, staying on top of our game means we need to keep learning, growing, and adapting—this is where Continuing Professional Development (CPD) comes in. Whether it’s staying up to date with new methods, sharpening our classroom skills, or exploring fresh ideas, CPD is essential for anyone who’s serious about their teaching. It not only helps us feel more confident and capable, but it also directly benefits our students, who get to experience more engaging and effective lessons.
There are so many ways to dive into CPD—whether it’s attending workshops, conferences, taking online courses, reading industry publications, or even becoming a member of professional associations. Don’t forget to track your CPD activities; reflecting on them is just as important as doing them. Plus, it shows potential employers that you’re committed to being the best teacher you can be.
For example, here are three key courses that really shaped me as a teacher, along with some of the work I did for each program in case anyone’s interested in similar paths. First was CELTA, which laid the foundation for my teaching practice, from lesson planning to classroom management. Then came IHCAM, which pushed me to explore different teaching strategies, conduct action research in my own classroom, and reflect on resources to enhance language learning. Finally, the Delta course took things to another level by deepening my understanding of assessment, curriculum design, and helping me grow into a more independent professional.
These experiences have made a huge difference in my teaching, and I’m confident that they’ll have a lasting impact on my future students. If you’re a teacher, I can’t recommend enough that you get involved in CPD, reflect on what you learn, and share it with others—together, we can keep improving and supporting each other in this field.
Resources, Bibliographies, Books, Sites, Tools and more...
Over the years, I’ve come across so many incredible resources that have shaped my teaching practice, and many of these have been recommended to me by friends and colleagues in the field. I’m a big believer in sharing what works, so I wanted to highlight a few of the resources that have been especially helpful for me, both in and out of the classroom.
Some of these I’ve stumbled upon through experience, while others have been gifted to me by fellow teachers, and I can honestly say they’ve made a real difference in my approach. Whether it’s a must-read book, an online platform, or a practical tool, each one has added something to my teaching toolkit.
These resources, and many others, have been instrumental in helping me keep my lessons fresh, engaging, and student-centered. I’m always on the lookout for more, so if you have any favorites, I’d love to hear about them! Sharing these kinds of tools and ideas is one of the best ways we can keep growing as teachers and support each other along the way.
