Lexis/Vocabulary
Lexis, or vocabulary, plays a critical role in English Language Teaching (ELT). It refers to the words and phrases that are used to communicate meaning in a language. As such, developing a strong lexicon is essential for effective communication. In ELT, teachers must help learners acquire a wide range of vocabulary and teach them how to use it appropriately in different contexts. This involves not only teaching learners the meaning of individual words but also helping them understand the nuances of language and how to use words and phrases appropriately. Moreover, vocabulary acquisition is closely linked to the other language skills, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking. By expanding their vocabulary, learners can improve their ability to comprehend and produce language in all of these areas.
