Reading Skills
In English Language Teaching (ELT), reading skills refer to the ability to comprehend and interpret written texts in the English language. Reading skills are essential for developing learners' language proficiency and improving their overall communicative competence. Effective reading skills in ELT involve several sub-skills, such as skimming, scanning, predicting, inferring, and summarizing. Reading skills development in ELT requires a range of activities and materials that support learners in improving their reading proficiency. These may include pre-reading activities that introduce key vocabulary and concepts, reading comprehension activities that focus on developing specific reading skills, and post-reading activities that encourage learners to engage critically with the text and reflect on their learning. Reading skills are a vital component of language learning in ELT, enabling learners to access and understand written texts in the English language, expand their vocabulary and grammar knowledge, and develop their overall communicative competence.
