English for Specific Purposes
English for Specific Purposes (ESP) is a branch of English Language Teaching (ELT) that focuses on teaching English for specific purposes and contexts. Unlike General English, which covers a broad range of language skills and topics, ESP is designed to meet the specific needs of learners in their particular field or discipline. The goal of ESP is to provide learners with the language skills they need to succeed in their chosen field, whether it be business, law, medicine, or any other specialized profession. ESP courses typically include specialized vocabulary and grammar, as well as communication skills and cultural awareness relevant to the learner's field. ESP is often taught in a more practical and hands-on way than General English, with a focus on using the language in real-world situations that learners are likely to encounter in their profession. This can include role-playing exercises, case studies, and other simulations that help learners apply their language skills in a meaningful way.
