Advanced Methodology Course
Professional development for teachers is a vital aspect of maintaining their skills and keeping up with the latest trends in teaching methodology. With the advancement of technology, teachers now have access to incredible online professional development courses that offer them the flexibility to study at their own pace and time. In this post, I'll tell you about one such online professional development course for teachers that focuses on advanced methodology and how it helped me and my teaching.
The course in question - Advanced Methodology from International House London - is designed to provide advanced knowledge and practical skills for teachers to implement in their classrooms. The course materials are of high quality and cover a wide range of topics, including new teaching methodologies, best practices, and technology integration. The course also provides opportunities for participants to engage with other educators through forums and tutor interaction. These are key components that facilitated collaborative learning and provided a sense of community among myself and fellow participants.
The forum is a valuable tool in online courses, as it allowed me to connect with others who are taking the course. It also provided a platform to share ideas and ask questions, creating an environment for active engagement and discussion. I was grateful that the forum was used and monitored so actively throughout the course by both the tutors and the other participants, it really was a life saver to orient myself and be able to tackle the more complex assignments in the course.
Another critical component was the tutor interaction. The tutors were very experienced educators who provided participants with guidance, feedback, and support throughout the experience. They were available to answer questions and provide additional resources, making the learning process smoother and more accessible. Their guidance helped me, and I'm sure other participants, stay on track and successfully complete the course.
Speaking of completing the course... Successful completion of the course required dedication and commitment from the participants. The depth and breadth of knowledge gained were directly proportional to the level of engagement of the participants. IHCAM encouraged participants to reflect on their learning and apply it to their teaching contexts through action research. This provided an opportunity for participants to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice, creating a positive impact in their classrooms. I found this to be a great transition from the foundational knowledge I got from CELTA to the more complex and nebulous areas I tackled in Delta. If educators are looking for a course to take between the CELTA/CertTESOL and the Delta/DipTESOL, I highly recommend the IHCAM, it's just heavy enough on theory and reading that you can get quite the bang for your buck. But, as the assessment and interactions mainly happen asynchronously, it is not that huge time commitment which some might neglect because of work.
All in all, the online professional development course for teachers, IHCAM, focused on advanced methodology is an excellent opportunity for educators to enhance their skills and knowledge. The use of forums, tutor interaction, and high-quality materials make the learning process more engaging, interactive and collaborative. Teachers' level of engagement is critical to the depth and breadth of knowledge gained but you can clearly see when doing the work a positive impact on their own teaching success.
